Our goal is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of learning in unsupervised environments.
        •             Within the context of homework, our goal is to replace ineffective study tasks with homework tasks that result in significantly better comprehension and long-term retention.
        •             Within the context of instructional design, our goal is to create guidelines that enable teachers, textbook designers, and instructional designers to construct more effective study tasks.
        •             Within the contexts of learning-to-learn and metacognition, our goal is to determine the conditions under which students adopt practiced cognitive events for unsupervised study.
